Play festival celebrates Shakespeare’s anniversary
In 2016, William Shakespeare, the beloved master of theatre, continues to astound the world after 400 years. Even though Shakespeare's first productions were enjoyed by audiences more than 400 years ago, his works are still alive and full of energy. Performed in modern theatre productions and translated for the benefit of theatre audiences all over the world, his works continue to delight.
The 2016 Festival of William Shakespeare, co-hosted by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) and Chinese Dramatists Society, will commemorate the rich, spiritual contributions offered by Shakespeare by combining the worlds of Chinese and foreign theatres into one festival.
The festival will be held in Shanghai from Sept 11-17, 2016. The seven-day festival will include a series of Shakespearean plays produced by international and local professional art troupes and an academic conference on the theme of “Shakespeare and Contemporary China”.
