The 2019 Shanghai Book Fair will offer a series of reading activities from Aug 14 to 20, according to a news conference on Aug 6.
This year, the event has attracted more than 500 publishing houses nationwide and over 160,000 book titles.
The exhibited books only account for a small part of the annual publications due to the event's focus on high-quality books.
In addition to the main session in Shanghai, there are more than 50 branch venues in cities in the Yangtze River Delta region and other places across the country.
During the week-long event, different kinds of books stores and reading spaces will roll out activities such as cultural lectures, sharing sessions and launching ceremonies for new books.
A new flagship store at Shanghai Centre will hold the Shanghai International Literary Week from Aug 13 to 19, joined by well-known authors from home and abroad.
The book fair will not be restricted to physical spaces – it has also launched apps for readers allowing them to make online orders.
Jing'an district in Shanghai will provide 5G coverage and enable readers to use 5G equipment at its reading space. It will also display reading activities online via 5G live.
Exhibitions on John Howe and Victor Hugo, jointly held by the Pearl Art Museum and the Sinan Mansions, will be highlights of this year's event and will showcase manuscripts, paintings and books by the two eminent artists.
