Discount fare to mark Tourism Day
A total of 70 tourist attractions in Shanghai will offer discounted tickets for citizens in response to China Tourism Day, which falls on May 19 every year, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism announced on May 7.
This year, the number of scenic spots to run special offers will increase and the price discounts will be greater than in previous years.
Major scenic spots such as Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and Shanghai Happy Valley are in the list of scenic spots that will offer half price tickets to visitors.
Tourism projects such as the sightseeing cruise on the Huangpu River and Shanghai Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Tour will implement preferential fares as well.
New tourist attractions and cultural projects also have promotions. For example, Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, which officially opened in November last year, will give half price tickets from May 18 to 19. The Chinese version of the musical Beauty and the Beast, currently playing at Shanghai Disney Resort, will also offer discounted tickets.
In addition to favorable prices, a series of entertainment activities such as flower appreciation, reading exchange and a night tour will be available for visitors around China Tourism Day.
Statistics showed that 161 major tourist attractions in Shanghai received 5.6 million tourists during the four-day holiday around Labor Day from May 1 to 4, a year-on-year increase of 33 percent.
The 9th China Tourism Day this year is on Sunday. Shanghai's tourism authorities have warned of long queues and some restrictions may be in place to manage crowds.
