Starting from Sept 20, returnees in the Pudong New Area can apply for a Shanghai hukou (household registration) at the all seven talent service centers in the area, local media reported on Sept 19.
The decision will make registration much easier for returnees, since there were formerly only two talent service centers with approval authorities.
On July 1, the city's human resources and social security bureau gave Pudong the ability to provide Shanghai hukous to graduates from Chinese or overseas universities, hoping to boost talent recruitment.
Since then, Pudong has started to streamline its household registration system in response to a growing number of applicants for Shanghai hukous in the area.
After Pudong was granted approval powers, HR managers from Shanghai Foreign Service Co and Shanghai Commercial Aircraft Co asked if their nearest service centers could handle applications.

When informed of the new decision, an HR manager from Haitong Futures said, "I am glad to see the talent service environment in Pudong New Area is getting better, which will help talent and companies save on time and costs."
