Shanghai residents are now able to reserve customized buses on Chinese payment platform Alipay at about one-tenth the cost of a taxi. A system of customized bus routes has been created based on AI technology.
The customized buses are convenient for office workers as they only stop at residential gates and office buildings.
The buses help save on time and costs, ensure that every passenger has a seat, and guarantee that passengers will arrive at their destination on time.
Passenger Miss Dai used to spend nearly two hours commuting via traditional public transportation and had to transfer multiple times.
She said she began taking taxis after becoming pregnant but it cost her 150 yuan ($21) for a one-way trip. "Now I spend just an hour and a half and 18 yuan by taking a customized bus."
The provider of the customized bus service said that commuter demand from Songjiang to Zhangjiang is very high.
"The buses are on average filled to 80 percent capacity, according to statistic starting from when Alipay first introduced the system," said an Alipay spokesperson.
