Transportation museums

(meet-in-shanghai.net) | Feb 28, 2014

Shanghai is and long has been a key transportation hub for East China and even East Asia. Its railway and maritime museums have a lot to offer visitors and are a great place to learn about the importance of transportation throughout its history, and how the relation between transportation and the city continues to improve the well-being of everyone.

Shanghai Railway Museum

Railways have been an important part of human civilization and were pioneers in modern industrial development. In China, they got their formal start with the Wu Song Railway of 1876, and were part of the uneasy development of the old China. After the founding of the People's Republic, a new railway system began to develop rapidly.

And this railway museum uses historical materials and objects to demonstrate the course of that development, especially in Shanghai and East China over the past 100 years. It shows the past and present to help make people more familiar with China’s railway system and its facts and concerns.
