A joint musical performance was staged by two choirs from Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) and the Japanese Waseda University on Sept 23.
The performances were a part of a series of art shows to mark the 65th anniversary of Shanghai Normal University.
Songs sung by Chinese and Japanese students showcased each university's characteristics and were greeted by applause and cheers, which helped promote the cultural exchange, organizers said.
Officials said the two universities hoped to enhance their friendship through music and links between college students, through the exchange activities which have taken place since 1999.
The music show ended with Friends -- a song celebrating friendship -- sung by the two choirs together.
