The first International Conference on Techno Humanities took place at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from Oct 10 to 12.
During the main forum, attendees discussed the relationship between technology and the humanities disciplines and how to develop higher education in an era of rapid technological change.
Educators and academics from home and abroad agreed that humanities subjects should be expanded to incorporate knowledge from other fields.
Peng Qinglong, vice-dean of the university's school of foreign languages, said that the seminar provided new ideas for universities to explore interdisciplinary research into arts and science subjects.
In addition, the Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Philosophy and Social Sciences) was also officially unveiled at the seminar, with the publication expected to help promote debate and research into relevant areas.
