Tongji University develops navigation system for 2nd CIIE

A positioning and navigation system developed by Tongji University was used at the six-day second China International Import Expo (CIIE) which ended on Nov 11.
Users of the system were able to visit numerous booths with an accurate guide at the exhibition, which covered an area of 360,000 square meters during the expo.
"No matter where you want to go, which booth you want to visit, the system will take you right there," said Li Yunzhou, a student volunteer for the expo from Tongji University.
The system was designed by Liu Erwu, director of the Positioning and Navigation Laboratory of Tongji University and professor of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering. It uses technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, data analyzing and internet of things.
It marks an improvement on the positioning and navigation service that featured in the first CIIE in 2018, as Professor Liu's team provided an updated version this year, including real-life navigation, location sharing and collection, sign-in wall and other functions.
It has been providing an accurate and reliable digital navigation service for visitors both from home and abroad in different languages since the opening of second CIIE on Nov 5.
Visitors can click on the "On-Site Navigation" module by using the "Guide" app or a mini-program based on the system. By zooming in on the page on screen with two fingers, users can see thumbnails of each venue on site.
Enter "Destination" in the "Search Box" at the top of a mobile phone screen, which will immediately show users the path to the destination. When keeping the mobile phone in an upright position, you will find that the real environment you are in has been integrated into the mobile phone screen, that is, a virtual reality and the positioning and navigation technology. By simply glancing at the screen of your mobile phone, this system makes it possible to enjoy the exhibition and get to your destination in good time.
