Professor Yves Brechet, member of the French Academy of Science and European Academy of Science, was awarded the honorary title of "Advisory Professor" by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) at the SJTU-Paris Tech Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT) on Oct 28.
SJTU launched the "Honorary Professor, Advisory Professor" program in early 2019 in an effort to facilitate academic research and exchange and international cooperation. The honorary academic titles will be awarded to esteemed experts and scholars abroad who cooperate with SJTU in critical areas.
Xu Xuemin, vice president of the institute, presented Brechet the certificate and extended her gratitude for the contributions he has made to SJTU. Xu expressed confidence that, with Brechet's support, the school can boost scientific research and development.
Brechet said he felt honored to receive the new title and looks forward to cooperating with the university in school-business programs and scientific research.
Brechet delivered a lecture entitled "From Louis XIV Mirrors to Materials by Design: A Scientific Day in Saint-Gobain" at the award ceremony.
Brechet's research focuses on the fields of metallurgy and mechanical calculation of materials, especially in solid state phase transformation, plasticity and fracture. He has published more than 500 SCI papers which have received over 24,000 citations and has supervised 78 PhD students.
Since 2011, Brechet has been carrying out multi-level cooperation and exchange with SJTU. He served as the French project leader of the SJTU-CEA neutron spectrometer cooperation project in 2018. Starting this year, he will serve as the chief scientist for Saint-Gobain worldwide.
