Volunteers from Shanghai universities serve at 2nd CIIE
Students from 38 universities in Shanghai served as volunteers at the six-day second China International Import Expo (CIIE) which ended on Nov 10.
The volunteers were divided into various work groups according to task. They served as vehicle receptionists, manned the lost and found station, issued news releases and acted as guides, among other things.
Out of the nearly 1,500 students at East China Normal University who applied to volunteer, 141 were ultimately selected due to their ability to speak English and communicate with others, according to the volunteer organizer at the university.
Volunteer experience is also an important factor. Nearly 20 percent of volunteers at this year's event also served at the first CIIE in 2018 and were able to share their experiences with new recruits.
The volunteers attended a series of training courses, including an introduction to CIIE, safety education, emergency care and cross-cultural communication.
