Shanghai universities rise in global rankings

Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, two of the most prestigious universities in Shanghai, have been included among the global top 50 universities on the latest QS World University Rankings released on June 10 by London-based higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds
Fudan University rose from 40th last year to 34th this year, while Shanghai Jiao Tong University rose 13 places to 47th. These are the highest rankings either of the universities has achieved.
They ranked 3rd and 4th among universities in the Chinese mainland, respectively, following Tsinghua University and Peking University in Beijing.
QS ranked a total of 1,000 universities from 80 countries and regions. Six indicators were used in compiling the annual rankings, including academic and employer reputation, citations per faculty member, student-to-faculty ratio, and international student to faculty ratios.
