The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology met the wishes of its 2020 graduating students on June 19, when they held their graduation ceremony on campus.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, many universities have held graduation ceremonies online, which made some students feel regret about missing their "last goodbye" to their friends and school.
As the epidemic is waning in Shanghai, the university decided to allow graduating students who meet certain requirements to return to campus to attend the graduation ceremony.
Thanks to the move, the students could wear academic dress and take graduation photos with their classmates on campus - instead of using Photoshop to create one.
They were also able to accept their diplomas from their teachers and have their tassels turned, which made some students very excited and even burst into tears.
"We hope you can go all out towards your future without regrets," said Ding Xiaodong, president of the university, in his speech during the ceremony.
He also encouraged them to rise to the challenge and to chase emerging professions in the digital age, citing a saying that "opportunities always favor those who are prepared".
