Summer program offers tour of Chinese culinary culture
The 2021 Chinese Culinary Culture Program, part of the annual Shanghai Summer School project, recently concluded at Shanghai Polytechnic University.
The program was held online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was attended by foreign students interested in Chinese food and culture.
The three-week program included courses on Chinese culinary culture, cooking, restaurant exploration, Chinese language and lectures about China.
"The summer program allowed us to learn about the Chinese food culture in a very direct way," said Mukatay Klara from Al Farabi Kazakh National University, adding that although learning a foreign language is difficult, the curriculum of the cultural introductions and interactive activities made the entire process interesting.
Muhatai Kelare, a PhD student and lecturer in Chinese at Al Farabi Kazakh National University, said the program has motivated her to learn more about Chinese culture. She said that she has also gained new friendships with teachers and students of Shanghai Polytechnic University.
"I really enjoyed this program. I have learned a lot during the short three weeks and wish that it would have lasted for a few more," said Klink Alina from Ravensburg University of Cooperative Education. "I would be happy if we could keep in contact and maybe one day meet each other face to face when we visit Shanghai."
Kuttybaeva Gulmira, director of International Relations Department of Turan University in Kazakhstan, thanked Shanghai Polytechnic University for organizing such a program and expressed optimism about their future cooperation.
