Shanghai Customs College (SCC) aims to cultivate high-quality customs management professionals to meet the needs of customs, the economy and social development, as well as foreign trade professionals who specialize in port logistics and international businesses.
The college aspires to become a world-class institution of higher learning with unique teaching methods and global influence. It follows customs reform and development practices and contributes to the establishment of modern customs with socialist features in the new era.
Customs and public administration, customs and public economics, business administration and customs college, customs law, customs foreign languages, public teaching, the Marxist college, and inspection and quarantine technology exchange are among the college's eight schools and departments.
It offers 11 undergraduate majors in customs management, quarantine safety, administrative management, logistics management, auditing, international business, taxation, applied statistics, law, and English, as well as four professional degree programs in public management, tax, international business, and translation. These majors are divided into four categories: management science, economics, law, and literature.
The college conducts theoretical research and participates in international exchanges. Its responsibilities include continuous education, knowledge updates, and business training for middle and senior customs officials. It also conducts regular training of customs personnel in the region and fulfills associated international obligations in accordance with the World Customs Organization's (WCO) division of labor and the requirements of countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific.
As of August 31, 2021, there had been 163 full-time teachers at SCC, including 18 professors and 49 associate professors. The proportion of teachers that hold senior professional and technical positions is 41 percent. There are 97 teachers with doctorates and 56 with master's degrees. The proportion of teachers with postgraduate degrees is 94 percent. Its faculty structure is sound and its teaching and scientific research levels are relatively high.
The college has a Customs Management Research Institute and research centers that focus on customs law, customs risk management, tariffs, customs public relations, and customs clearance, which conduct scientific research on difficult issues faced by customs reform and development, and bilateral, multilateral, and regional international customs cooperation. In 2009, the college was granted approval to establish the Shanghai Social Science Innovation Research Base and the Shanghai Development Strategy Research Institute Studio. It publishes the academic journal Customs and Economic Research.
The college is located in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, and covers an area of 34.73 hectares. It has modern teaching buildings, libraries and advanced ATM campus networks. The classrooms are equipped with multimedia equipment. There are digital reading rooms, audio-visual rooms, cultural and entertainment complexes, a tennis court, swimming pool, gymnasium and other supporting facilities, which create a good learning and living environment for students.
