The 2019 Shanghai Summer School recently held a program for foreign students focusing on China's political and legal culture which ended at the East China University of Political Science and Law on July 12.
Twenty-two students from 11 partner universities in 10 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative attended this year's program.
During their four-week stay in Shanghai, the students learned about Chinese law and legal concepts in traditional Chinese philosophy. They also shared views on the legal systems of their own countries.
In addition to classroom study, participants of the program also went on field trips to local law firms and courts, where they learned about China's legal practices directly from judges and lawyers.
Many ancient towns and museums they visited in Shanghai and surrounding cities gave them a better understanding of China's culture.
At the closing ceremony, the students spoke highly of the program, saying it taught them a lot about China's political and legal systems, and expressed a desire to study at the university in the future.
The Chinese political and legal culture program, part of the Shanghai Summer School sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, has been held by the university for four years and aims to further open up higher education and increase international exchange.
