On Feb 15, international students at Shanghai University participated in a series of events with Chinese students and faculty to experience the joyous rituals of how Chinese people celebrate the Lantern Festival.
The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which was Feb 15 this year. Its arrival also marks the end of Spring Festival celebrations.
To incorporate international students in the festivities, Shanghai University hosted traditional Lantern Festival celebrations such as crafting paper lanterns, guessing lantern riddles, and eating sweet glutinous rice balls.
Since this year's Lantern Festival coincided with the Beijing Winter Games, the institution also scheduled activities such as making Olympic mascots out of clay and curling, which added to the festivities' excitement.
